Sin Rival Anejo
Sin Rival is made at Tequila Tres Mujeres, NOM 1466, in the lowland Tequila Valley of Jalisco, where the agave is cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a roller mill, fermented from 100% agave in stainless steel tanks, and double distilled in a stainless steel pot still, with every bottling in the line at 40% ABV (80 proof). The brand name means "without rival," and the line runs from blanco through a six-year extra añejo. The Añejo is aged for more than twelve months in oak barrels, which puts it just past the one-year minimum for the category, long enough to turn the color gold and pull vanilla and caramel out of the wood while the earthy, vegetal lowland agave that defines the Tres Mujeres house style is still in the glass. The brand does not publish the specific barrel type for this expression, so take it as a traditional valley añejo where the agave leads and the oak supports. It is the sipping bottle in the core range, for neat pours or a single large ice cube, and it makes a tequila Manhattan with more earth and spice than a highland añejo would.
