Sin Rival is made at Tequila Tres Mujeres, NOM 1466, in the lowland Tequila Valley of Jalisco, where the agave is cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a roller mill, fermented from 100% agave in stainless steel tanks, and double distilled in a stainless steel pot still, with every bottling in the line at 40% ABV (80 proof). The brand name means "without rival," and the line runs from blanco through a six-year extra añejo. The Blanco is the unaged expression, bottled straight after the second distillation so the lowland valley agave character comes through without any oak. Lowland tequilas from the valley around the town of Tequila tend toward earthier, more herbal and peppery flavors than the sweeter, fruitier highland style, and a blanco is where that difference is easiest to taste. Tres Mujeres cooks its agave slowly in traditional masonry ovens rather than pressure autoclaves, which keeps the cooked-agave sweetness and avoids the raw, bitter edge of rushed tequila.
