Porfidio Extra Anejo Tequila

Porfidio Extra Añejo is the aged flagship of Porfidio, the brand Austrian-born Martin Grassl launched in 1991 after coming to Mexico at 24 to study the tequila market and deciding to make his own. Grassl's approach was 100% agave, triple distillation, no additives, and a hand-blown green glass saguaro sealed inside the clear bottle that made Porfidio one of the most recognizable tequilas of the 1990s. The Extra Añejo is made from 100% blue agave, triple distilled, and aged in virgin white oak barrels rather than the used bourbon casks most extra añejos rely on, so the wood character is fresher and the color comes from the barrel alone; it carries the extra añejo designation, meaning a minimum of three years in oak. It is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in the 750ml cactus bottle. The producer's notes describe a rich golden color, a pronounced agave nose, a full-bodied palate with caramel sweetness and a warm, long finish, and recommend drinking it neat.
